Fake It

The Law of Reversibility

One of the key tenets of NLP, or neuro-linguistic programming is the Law of Reversibility.

This law says that you are more likely to act yourself into feeling a particular way than you are to feel yourself into acting.”

Act As If

Put another way, if you “act as if” you already had the qualities and talents that you seek, your actions will generate the feelings that go with them. This in turn will drive you towards your goals.

In even more blunt terms: “Fake it until you make it!”

Reaching the Top

Tony Robbins, a success coach and NLP expert explains how this can be applied to our careers.

If you want to reach the top of your business or profession, first identify the most successful people in this area.

Role Models

Then use them as role models: dress like them. Adopt their work habits, their outlooks, their ideals and values. Go as far as to duplicate their gestures and body movements.

Advice

Find out their secrets to success. Or better yet, ask them directly for advice. And whatever they tell you, do it.

Robbins says that when you start to walk, talk, dress and behave like the top people, you soon begin to feel like the top people.

You will work the way they do. You will interact with others the way they do. You will start to get similar results. Very soon, you will be one of the top people yourself.
