Predictions, III

 

Respond to the following statements. Say why and give examples.

Here are some prediction. What do you think? It will definitely happen. It will probably happen. It might happen. It could happen. It probably won’t happen. I doubt it. It will never happen.


Science and Technology

20. Today’s PCs, laptops, smart phones, and tablets will be in museums.

21. Plants and animals in the wild will have become extinct. They will only exist in zoos, botanical gardens, and reserves.

22. The climate will get hotter, and all countries will become tropical, subtropical, or desert—except for Britain which will grow colder.

23. There will be safari parks of cloned dinosaurs, mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and other prehistoric megafauna and flora.

24. Scientists will learn how to “tame” and “harness” the power, energy and force of cyclones, earthquakes, electric eels, floods, heat waves, hurricanes, killer bees, lightnings, storms, mosquitoes, toads, tornadoes, tsunamis, volcanoes, water hyacinths.


Society

25. Spanish will become the next lingua franca (universal, international language).

26. The world’s main religions will be Evangelicalism, Jehovah’s Witness, and Mormonism.

27. All nations will eventually have laws and customs in line with those of the Netherlands, which will continue to progress (or regress).
