Hello My name is Laura. I was born and grew up in Almaty in beautiful Kazakhstan. I’m 28 years old.

What do you do for a living?

I’m a stewardess with an international airline. I earn a good living by our country’s standards. I can afford the things I want.

What does globalization mean to you?

You can travel to different countries and visit all kinds of people. You can buy things you only used to dream of.

In some places everything is very cheap; in others it’s very expensive.

What worries you?

I have little worries sometimes. But I’m a very positive, cheerful person. I never get depressed.

What makes you happy?

My loved ones…my job…my friends. Maybe peace all over the world.

What country would you like to visit?

I would really like to go to Brazil. Friendly people. The carnival. The good mood. Rio de Janeiro. Sao Paulo. I’d like to visit them.

How do you spend your free time?

I like to sing. Last year I took first place in a karaoke contest. I even got some prize money. That was wonderful.

Hello. My name is Gulnaziya Nussupova from Astana in Kazakhstan. Welcome.

My daughter is 12 years old and likes to surf the internet. Let’s go into the living room.

This is my favorite picture. I come from Almaty and this picture was given to me by my husband’s parents. It shows a typical regional landscape scene.

There are mountains, streams, and fir trees in Almaty.

These are Kazakhstan souvenirs. This is our national instrument, the dumbra. This one is small, just a souvenir.

This is a yurt. We used to be a nomadic people. But nowadays you only see them in villages during the summer months.

When we have guests, we always gather in this room.

This salad is made of smoked chicken. And this is a herring salad. It’s a traditional salad for the Russians and Ukrainians too; the regions that were part of the Soviet Union.

We all love it.

Thank you for visiting us. And come back again one day.
