Peeta: “We could do it, you know: take off; live in the woods.”
Katniss: “They would catch us.”
Peeta: “Maybe not.”
Katniss: “We wouldn’t make it five miles.”

District 12 Announcer: “Welcome, welcome. The time has come to select one courageous young man and woman, who will be honored of representing District Twelve in the seventy-fourth annual Hunger Games.”

Katniss: “It’s your first year. They only do it once; they’re not going to even pick you.”

District 12 Announcer: “Primrose Everdeen.”

Katniss: “Prim!!!” . . . I volunteer. I volunteer as Tribute.”

District 12 Announcer: “Our Tributes Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen!

Peeta: “They just want a good show; that’s all they want.”
Katniss: “There’re twenty-four of us; and only one comes out.”

Katniss: “So you’re here to make me look pretty?”
Cinna: “I’m here to make a good impression.”

Announcer: “And so it’s decreed that each year, the twelve districts of Panem shall offer a contribute of one young man and woman between the ages of twelve and eighteen to be trained in the art of survival — and to be prepared to fight to the death.”

Trainer: “This is the time to show them everything, to make sure they’ll remember you.”

Peeta: “I keep wishing I could find a way to show them that they don’t own me; I’m going to die. I want to still be me.”
Katniss: “I just can’t afford to think like that.”
