Transcript

My name is Antonio Alberto Machado Cavalcante. I’m 40 years old and I live in Manaus.

What do you do for a living?

I’m a pilot. There are salaried pilots and self-employed pilots like me. I work freelance.

How much do I earn? Well to be honest, it’s enough to live on.

What worries you?

Living here in the Amazon, I’m most troubled by the clearing of the forests. It’s less of a problem here in the actual state of Amazon, but across the broader Amazon region, states like Para and Mato Grosso, it’s quite bad.

What does globalization mean to you?

I image there’s good side to it, but outsiders benefit from it far more than locals do.

What makes you happy?

Being successful in my profession, my kids and my friends. That’s pretty much it.

What country would you like to visit?

Africa. I already know the American continent. I’d really like to get to know Africa. I like to see the wildlife before it’s gone forever.
